What do we mean by Academic assessment and why is it important

Why at all do Universities require academic assessment to be done. After all, I am desirous of studying a course and am willing to pay top dollars for it, I should get in any University and pursue that course for advancement of my career. Is it not simple to ask for? 

Well, if only education would be as simple as buying a course off the shelf. It is now, thanks to online course materials and tutor classes available. But if you want to get into a University with high ranking and highly paid professors, established mode of connections to the who is who of the world, opportunities galore for your career, a world class infrastructure which fills you with awe and instils that sense of belongingess to that class of people, you better prove you are worth for them to include you in their midst. They will need to know if you are just some non-entity who cannot be worth the time and effort they spend on you. You pay the fee alright, but others too. And a University will always prefer students who have proven they are willing to study and work hard to take their alumini ranking in the world higher. So yes, you need to provide your academic credentials and they have a right to chose whether they want you or not on your campus!

Academic Assessment mean to the determines a student academic eligibility for specific course, whether the student is meeting University minimum entry requirement or not or any specific course requirement.
