University and Course Selection - How to Apply

How does a University assess a student's application form. What are the stages in assessment.

What is a conditional offer letter. Why is it issued? Does a conditional offer letter means my place in the University is granted?

When you submit an application, or an agent submits an application to a University on your behalf, you might have omitted certain documents which the University requires for assessing your application, either inadvertantly or because you or the agent was unaware of the documentation required. In such a case the admissions team either can ask the missing documents to be submitted before they assess the application, or if they feel an offer with conditions of submitting those documents, or fulfilling the entry requirements can be met by the student, they may chose to make an offer conditional upon those missing documents, or the entry requirement not evidenced to be met. What this means is you will have to fulfil those conditions before your place can be confirmed. For example, you have not submitted your certified grade XII marksheet, but you have submitted all other documents. The University admissions team can issue you a conditional offer letter with the condition that you would submit this marksheet, and also meet their entry requirement percentage on evidence of what the marksheet would show. Once you submit the said marksheet, and meet the percentages or grade XII performance required to gain entry to the course you have chosen, the University will issue another offer letter with the condition withdrawn. Do note that the seats available might be filled by another candidate who had submitted all details in the first attempt and met the entry requirement, so your place is not confirmed till such time you receive the unconditional offer letter, and you pay the fee required to confirm your place.

Conditional Offer letter means you still need to meet the conditions mentioned in offer letter and you are allowed provisional admission at the university. Once you provide all the required documents mentioned in offer letter and you meet all the other requirements, you offer becomes unconditional.

To confirm your place (depending upon availability of seats), you need to pay the fees and should have unconditional offer letter.

Conditional offer, also called "provisional admission" or "conditional acceptance," means that you will be admitted to a college or university on the condition that you make up for a certain requirement you do not presently meet.

The most common conditions are below:

1. English language condition

2. Academic condition

3. Study gap explanation
